In this edition of our newsletter I'd like to introduce Dr James Bishop to you, the Centre's new Research Manager, and exciting results from our Freeform Construction project; inspired by additive manufacturing and experimenting with concrete to create large-scale building components.
Dr James Bishop
Has been appointed to manage the Centre's research and working closely with the Director, implement the Centre's strategy.
James joins the IMCRC having spent several years at Ramboll Whitbybird, a leading engineering design consultancy, where he worked on strategy for managing technical knowledge and expertise across the organisation's disciplines.

Freeform Construction
The Freeform Construction project is investigating the potential of large scale additive manufacturing for producing full scale building components.
The project has made excellent progress and is developing new additive manufacturing processes capable of producing components in a build volume of up to 2m x 2.5m x 5m. A 1 tonne reinforced concrete architectural piece has been produced to demonstrate the potential of the process and is the first in a series of components to be manufactured by the team.
The project results are being exhibited at the Disseny Hub Museums Barcelona and a recent YouTube video has been produced, demonstrating the innovative construction process.
