Latest Insolvency Figures

Last Friday saw the publication of the latest Insolvency statistics published by The Insolvency Service for quarter one of 2011 revealing a small reverse to the previous two quarter’s decline in company liquidations. Administrations showed a big upward jump on the last quarter of 2010, back to virtually the same level as a year earlier and with company voluntary arrangements also showing a small increase quarter on quarter, total corporate insolvencies are just 1.2% higher that this time last year. Total Individual Insolvencies across the board were down for the fourth quarter in a row.

The turnaround in the reduction of corporate insolvencies comes as no surprise and reverses the atypical decline seen last year as an economy comes out of recession. I believe that struggling businesses last year benefitted from the softer approach being taken by banks, creditors and HMRC all of whom are now starting to apply greater pressure to underperforming businesses...
