University to host Teaching Games for Understanding Conference

Bookings are now being taken for the fifth International Teaching Games for Understanding (TGfU) Conference, to be held at Loughborough University on 14 - 16 July 2012 and hosted by the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences.

TGfU is a student-centred approach to games teaching which focuses on individual, social and contextual processes. It was developed with the purpose of enhancing teaching, coaching and learning in games, encouraging the development of intelligent and creative young games players, and making games inclusive and enjoyable for all abilities.

Sporting Insights back with a bang!

The Sporting Insights series will be returning to Sport Park on Friday 3 February when Alan Bell, International Development Co-ordinator at the Youth Sport Trust, will talk about his voluntary role as the Chief Starter for the athletics events at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Alan will also give an insight into his recent experiences at the 2011 IAAF World Athletics Championships, in which he officiated over the disqualification of Usain Bolt in the men’s 100 metres final.

Monica's Gold Challenge 2012

Leicester-Shire and Rutland Sport have organised a LOROS fundraising event on 27th January in memory of their former colleague, Monica Gibbs. The aim is to cover 2012km on the day in a number of different ways.

There will be two time slots for participants to use the Concept 2 Rowing Machines, Watt Bikes, Walk or Run! The 1.00 – 3.00pm slot is open to SportPark and other external organisations to take part in.

Loughborough Lightning tickets on sale

Loughborough Lightning will begin the new 2012 Superleague netball season on Saturday 21 January with a home fixture against Team Northumbria.  The match starts at 6pm.

Lightning Tickets for the first four home matches have gone on sale via our new ticketing partner Ticketline.

Buying online will give you a £1 discount over tickets bought on the door, and you can book now to reserve your place.

We would like to wish all the tenants and partners of SportPark a Happy Christmas and an exciting 2012.

A reminder that SportPark building will officially close on Friday evening 23rd December 2011 and will re-open at 8am on Tuesday 3rd January 2012.

There will be no concierge cover during this period however if you require access to the building you will need to obtain permission from your organisation and also to know how to operate the intruder alarm and know your area’s intruder alarm code.  If you need clarification or training you will need to contact your HR Department.

If you are coming into the building to work alone please contact Security on 01509 222141 both on your arrival and departure to inform them that you are in, or leaving, the building.

The gate across Oakwood Drive will be closed from Friday evening 23rd December until Wednesday 28th December 2011.  If you come in between those dates you will need to park in Holywell out of hours car park. The building will be heated throughout the holiday.
