Secretary of State to Visit SportPark

It's best bib and tucker time on Thursday (tomorrow) as we welcome the Secretary of State at the DCMS Ben Bradshaw MP to SportPark. Word is clearly getting out about our new building as Mr Bradshaw has specially extended his tour to the East Midlands so he can come and look round the building.

Some of our funding partners will be joining us to welcome him. The plan is for Mr Bradshaw to be escorted round the building and meet staff in each of the spaces currently occupied, so make sure your desks are tidy! We certainly hope he will get a positive message about the experience so far for those of you already in the building.

Mr Bradshaw is due to arrive at 12.00 and will be with us for a full hour in the middle of a busy itinerary. If you are in the building or surrounding area on Thursday please don't be afraid to use the cafe over lunch or even join the running club.

We really do want him to see a typical day at SportPark, and if he finds time to ask you what you think, be ready with your answer!

Café Sportive Event Hits SportPark

Café Sportive provides an opportunity for debate and discussion on a wide range of sports related issues, within a relaxed and informal environment.

Based on the highly successful UK wide model of Café Scientifique, Café Sportive will be holding its inaugural event on the 16th March at SportPark, Loughborough University.

This first event, in what is hoped to become a bimonthly programme in the Café Sportive calendar, is Café Sportive Presents: 'Food for Sport'. A top panel will present and discuss their views and opinions on the use of legal and illegal supplements in sport. Panellists include:

Ron Maughan, Professor of Sport and Exercise Nutrition at Loughborough University.

Ivan Waddington is Visiting Professor at the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences, Oslo and the University of Chester, UK.

Geoff Parsons is a double Olympic High Jumper and medallist at a number of major championships.

Café Sportive would be delighted if you would like to attend this FREE evening event taking place at SportPark, Loughborough University on 16th March, from 6pm to 9pm.  More info available here.

If you would like to attend this event please contact Mike Ridler, event organiser, via email on events@bydesign-group.co.uk.

Running Club Needs You!

The SportPark running club had it's first session this week, but needs some more members!

Sessions take place every Tuesday and Thursday lunchtime and the runs are aimed at those who fancy a 3 mile gentle jog rather than a long slog, catering for those who run at between 9 and 11 minute mile pace.

A great start for those entering the Race for Life later this year, or even just to get out of the office for some fresh air.

To get involved just meet in SportPark reception at 12.30.
